Orange Jasmine (Murraya paniculata) is a fragrant evergreen shrub or small tree that is part of the Rutaceae family, the same family that includes citrus plants. Its native range extends across Southeast Asia, including areas like India, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, but it has also been widely cultivated and naturalized in other parts of the world, particularly in subtropical and tropical regions.
There are several varieties and cultivars of Murraya paniculata, some of which are bred for more compact growth or specific flower colors. Varieties might include those with more intense fragrance, or some with more uniform blooming cycles.
Despite its common name, Orange Jasmine is not a true jasmine (genus Jasminum), but rather a member of the citrus family. Its name comes from the similarity of its fragrance to orange blossoms, which are part of the citrus family as well.
